Harpsichord virtuoso Justin Taylor, makes his PUC debut on our Performances Up Close series with his close collaborator, baroque violinist Théotime Langlois de Swarte. We asked him to share with us a few pieces of music that mean something to him. Inspired by his PUC appearance he says, “Princeton is a legendary place, among the greatest cultural places in the world. I am so happy to be playing here! In celebration, I made this ‘sounds of Princeton’ playlist. I chose the overture to Scylla and Glaucus by Jean-Marie Leclair, an opera that I love, and composed in 1746, the year the university was founded! Among the extraordinary personalities who passed through Princeton is Albert Einstein, the genius physicist but also a good violinist, who loved playing Mozart sonatas. Finally, playing in October at Princeton makes me think of ‘Autumn in New York’ by Ella Fitzgerald, honorary doctor of the university.”
