Double Bass Auditions

FOR PATRICIA KOPATCHINSKAJA’S “DIES IRAE”

Calling All Double Bassists!

Audition to perform Galina Ustwolskaja’s Composition No. 2: Dies irae for 8 Double Basses, Piano, and Wombat as part of Patricia Kopatchinskaja’s Dies Irae, a semi-staged production presented by Princeton University Concerts on Thursday, March 26, 2026 at 7:30 PM in the Princeton University Chapel, with rehearsals on the evenings of March 24–25. Selected musicians will join a professional ensemble featuring violinist Patricia Kopatchinskaja, pianist Conrad Tao, and bassists Zach Cohen, Nina Bernat, and Jack Hill, alongside Princeton University students.

Audition requirements

Please submit a video recording (phone recordings are welcome) by Friday, January 16, 2026, including:

  • Prepared excerpts (scores available by emailing dkoltuny@princeton.edu)
  • One short work of your choice (a few minutes is sufficient) that highlights your strengths
  • A brief spoken statement describing your interest in participating in this project
  • Please begin your video by stating your name and the date of recording

Auditions will be reviewed on a rolling basis, and positions will be filled as submissions are received—early applications are strongly encouraged. There is no participation fee, but travel expenses are covered.
